my approach to wedding photography

All wedding photographers are different. Some shoot candid. Some are all about the latest trends. So what are the things I take most seriously in this job? What are my imperatives? Here’s the two main ones.

  1. Shoot beautiful, authentic images without complicated set-ups or excessive cheesiness.

My goal is to create photographs that showcase real personality and have visual power. That means using light, composition and technical knowledge that I’ve gained over years of shooting.

But it won’t feel like a fashion shoot. You don’t need to have a repertoire of magazine-worthy poses. Something I often hear from clients is that they anticipate feeling awkward in front of the camera, but by embracing movement, and embracing the imperfect, we get the (cliché phrase alert) real you without an overbearing pressure to ‘perform’.

2. Be your trusted guide, both in the planning stages and on the day.

Let’s acknowledge that planning a wedding is no easy feat. Most people have little experience in organising so many moving parts, so I’m here to make this part of it super-smooth and enjoyable.

It all starts with an enquiry. We’ll talk about your plans, and we can have an easy chat over Zoom or in person. Once you’re all booked in you can contact me anytime in the run up to the day.

When it comes to the group photos, or a confetti exit, I’ll be there to guide you and your guests and suggest the where, the when and the how.

The rest of the time, I’m a fly on the wall - staying out of your way as much as possible and only occasionally stepping in to take advantage of some great light. Weddings are so rich with personalities, emotion, energy and dynamism and I’m there to capture it, not to fake it.

I often hear from past clients how the photos were so much easier and more relaxed than they were anticipating. Knowing my clients have a set of treasured images that will last them a lifetime is honestly the most rewarding part of this job and I’ll never take for granted the trust that clients place in me to deliver images from a day that will never be repeated.

If you’re looking for a photographer for your day and getting lost in Google searches, don’t hesitate to get in touch via the Contact form where I’ll be delighted to help out with your query.
